Usernames and display names

All Photocrowd users have two usernames:

  • A ‘display name’ which is often, but not always, their real name. It is not unique, so there may be multiple users with the same display name. It allows users to refer to themselves using their own name, even if others have the same name

  • A ‘username’ which is shown as @username on the site, and which is unique to that user. It allows a user to be referred to in a definite way, which cannot be confused with any other user. This also determines the web address (URL) of the user’s Photocrowd profile eg a user with the username @johnsmith will have the Photocrowd profile URL https:www.photocrowd.com/johnsmith

Both display name and username are chosen during the signup flow, and both can be changed by the user at any time in the Account settings page. However do note that changing your @username means that your Photocrowd profile URL will change. If you’ve shared that URL anywhere else, or you link to it anywhere, those links will be broken, and not re-directed to your new profile URL.

There are some limits to the length and composition of Photocrowd usernames:

  • @usernames must be between 3 and 30 characters long; using only letters, numbers, underscore, period, hyphen; no consecutive periods; no starting/ending with period; no usernames only containing numbers; no spaces. There are also various usernames which cannot be registered for security purposes - you’ll be advised of this if you try to register them.

  • Display names must be no more than 50 characters long.
